GuardIAS is developing the first sound library of aquatic IAS: a collection of underwater sounds produced by fish, frogs and crayfish recognised as IAS of Union Concern. The new sound library is key to creating surveillance systems based on PAM (Passive Acoustics Monitoring).
Original recordings are being collected using hydrophones deployed in the wild or in aquarium/laboratory tanks. The UNIPV bioacoustics team is currently trying to verify if the spiny-cheek crayfish Faxonius limosus is a soniferous species.
