GuardIAS & INVASIVESNET Virtual Conference – Cost-efficient IAS detection and monitoring: novel tools and Citizen Science

We are delighted to invite you to the Second GuardIAS Virtual Conference, taking place on 19th & 20th November, as part of the ongoing conference series hosted by the GuardIAS Project and INVASIVESNET. This initiative is funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Programme.

Building on the success of last year’s conference which attracted over 400 registrations from participants around the world this year’s event promises to be even more engaging and impactful.

This year’s conference theme, “Cost-efficient IAS detection and monitoring: novel tools and Citizen Science,” will spotlight innovative, practical, and scalable approaches to invasive alien species (IAS) detection and monitoring. With a strong focus on cost-efficiency and public engagement, the programme will explore emerging technologies, novel methodologies, and the growing role of citizen science in strengthening surveillance and response systems worldwide.

Participants can look forward to sessions covering:

  1. Smart detection technologies for IAS surveillance
  2. eDNA and molecular diagnostics for non-native species detection and monitoring
  3. AI-assisted species detection
  4. Citizen Science & participatory surveillance networks
  5. Data integration from multiple platforms: transforming diverse observations into actionable intelligence
  6. From Detection to Action: cost-efficiency, management & policy uptake

Across two dynamic days, participants will engage with pioneering research, share practical experiences, and foster collaborations aimed at improving early detection, enhancing monitoring efficiency, and supporting coordinated action against invasive alien species. Join a global network of researchers, decision-makers, land managers, and community leaders committed to advancing smarter, more inclusive solutions to biological invasions.

Registration is free and opens on 6th July.
Abstract submissions will be accepted until 14th September.

Be sure to keep an eye on the conference website for updates on session themes, our keynote speaker, and further programme details all coming soon.

We look forward to welcoming you this November for two inspiring days of knowledge exchange, innovation, and international collaboration.
