GuardIAS at Neobiota 2026

GuardIAS was well represented at the Neobiota 2026 conference. This bi-annual conference of the European Group on Biological Invasions, gathers invasion biologists from Europe and the rest of the world. The 2026 edition was run in Brussels, with GuardIAS partner INBO being one of the main organisers.

The conference attracted 466 participants from 45 nationalities and included 114 presentations, 29 flashtalks and 194 poster pitches. A large GuardIAS delegation represented the project.

  • Diederik Strubbe and Fleur Petersen were co-organising the event.
  • Belinda Gallardo and Federica Rossetto were part of the scientific committee.
  • Work package leads Belinda Gallardo, Elena Tricarico and Tim Adriaens were attending and several presentations and posters were showcasing the project.
  • Margot Vermeylen presented the work on drafting a guidance for contingency planning.
  • Teun Everts and Rein Brys presented the case study work on marbled crayfish, quantifying invasive crayfish impacts on native amphibians using eDNA.
  • Federica Rossetto presented the work on scenarios of invasion with and without investing in the prevention of future freshwater invaders in Europe.

Throughout the conference there was GuardIAS representation through a dedicated project booth showing our project’s outputs, such as the policy briefs and the GuardIAS video, nicely placed alongside the booth of our sister project OneStop.

The conference abstracts can be consulted online as well as the e-posters.
